It said violations included neglecting safety measures, not maintaining entry points, leaving public toilets in a filthy state and not providing parking space for cars and trucks.
The governorate also said the rest houses and gas stations did not pay any attention to their overall appearance and some of them did not bother to renew their licenses. A committee comprising representatives from the ministries of interior, health, transport and Islamic affairs, as well as the Makkah municipality, has sent formal letters to the owners of the facilities since 2006 asking them to take appropriate action.
Head of the municipality’s department of control, foodstuffs and public hygiene Hattan Al-Hakami said the committee informed the governorate that the rest houses and gas stations had failed to heed its instructions.
Al-Hakami warned that any petrol station or rest house in Makkah province would be closed down if it failed to abide by the rules regulating their operation.
