Fairmont Raffles Hotels International continued the program through engaging employees to create environmental awareness at all levels within the organization and to platform activities and initiatives that would bring about a positive environmental responsibility in the community.
The second phase of plantation began with more than 100 employees participating in the program by planting 1000 trees in the Holy City. The employees were dressed in green “Let’s go Green” t-shirts and zealously volunteered for environmental responsibility. When fully grown, the trees will absorb approximately 42,000 combined pounds, or 24 tons, of particulate pollution per year, on average. The initiative is an outcome of the FRHI commitment towards ecological sustainability and an effort to make the city more green and beautiful. The program concept stems from the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) Sunnah perception on agriculture and the consolidation of environmental values among Muslims.
In this context, Khaled Yamak, the group director of Communications and Business Development, FRHI Makkah said: “The environment isn’t just something that’s “out there” it’s where we live and work each day and being in the community, it’s our responsibility to look after the well being of environment space. Yamak further added: “We are thankful to our 100 colleagues who came forward to volunteer. We have many other such initiatives planned for the coming months, and this is our commitment to give back to the community in which we operate” Fairmont Raffles hotels International Makkah has an active commitment towards community for many years and the passion about helping the environment that is reflected through this program. The planted trees will enhance the local environment and provide important benefits, including increased shade and improved air quality.
It is worth mentioning that the initiative is a part of the award winning green partnership campaign launched earlier this year in presence of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and the project also goes in line with the clear vision of the prince towards a green future.
