According to the judgment, the husband was sentenced to 10 years with 800 lashes, while his wife, who was convicted of aiding and abetting her husband, also received 10 years in jail with 1,000 lashes.
The police told the court that the couple hired a taxi from Batha to go to a place near Janadriyah situated in the east of Riyadh, around 40 km from the city center.
“When the couple got out of the limousine, they assaulted the driver and robbed him of his money and mobile phone and chased him away after grabbing the keys of the car,” a police statement said.
The driver sustained injuries due to stab wounds from both the husband and wife.
The injured cabbie flagged down a police car. The officers rushed to the scene and arrested the husband and wife and found them with the stolen car and the victim’s belongings, including the cash robbed from him.
The accused confessed to their crime in court.
