“The membership of the Tayyar Group brings the total number of members to 115. PSCDR's Founders Council has been funding researches on disability,” said Saad A. S. Almoshawah, PSCDR secretary general.
Earlier, three others joined the PSCDR Founders Council. These included Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA), Arabtec Construction L.I.C. and Omrania & Associates Consulting Engineers.
“PSCDR is thankful to the Tayyar group and the other whose membership boosts PSCDR's morale in its humanitarian undertakings,” said Almoshawah.
“We conduct and fund high quality laboratory and field research on all aspects and ages of disability. With the help of the Disabled Children Association (DCA), other organizations and the Founders Council, PSCDR can expand its operations in research and team-building activities to create synergies and guarantee effective utilization of research results,” Almoshawah said.
Research and programs of PSCDR are dictated by needs assessment and are often developed in consultation with stakeholders but always directed by PSCDR's vision and mission.
With the aid of a strong academic and training agenda, PSCDR can facilitate the cultivation and exchange of news ideas in the form of workshops and seminars, lectures, conferences and video-conferencing events.
“PSCDR has made tremendous strides in maximizing the return of research results to provide essential support and services to the disabled community. As new illnesses and conditions continue to evolve, PSCDR continues to reaffirm its commitment to address the changing needs of persons living with disabilities,” he said.
Despite increased global awareness, efforts to promote equality and push toward greater sensitivity and social correctness regarding disability issues, disabled people continue to suffer from discrimination all over the world, said Almoshawah.
“They are often inadvertently excluded from social, economic, and political processes in society, creating disparities in quality of life, compared to the general population,” he said.
To overcome disparities in society, PSCDR promotes constructive engagement and policy dialogue to demonstrate that reform can lead to mutual benefits.
As an advocate for change, PSCDR explores effective ways to advance concepts and principles that benefit persons living with disabilities. “By having comprehensive programs that support training, networking, sharing of resources and interaction, PSCDR can strengthen the capacities of governmental and non-governmental organizations, policymakers and the disabled community,” Almoshawah said.
He added that whether it is about prevention, early intervention or inclusion, it is important to understand that policies and services for the disabled and their families cannot be undertaken in isolation.
