JEDDAH: Blame it on conspiracy of circumstances. Hundreds of employees in the Kingdom will celebrate Eid without having received their June pay.
Although banks jumped in to help private sector employees hit by salary delays, hundreds have not yet received the June pay. Reason? Employers were late in depositing checks due to lack of coordination with the banks, which have made adjustments for Eid.
Moreover, banks only agreed to accept deposits of salaries of workers employed by institutions with whom they have agreements that allow the private sector to cope with such emergency situations and enable banks to communicate easily with companies.
While it has been reported that banks sent messages to companies informing them of the adjustments during Eid, some companies that do not have agreements with banks. That is why they were unable to give their employees salaries before Shawwal 7.
These companies, due to their size or financial uncertainty, have not been able to enter into agreements with banks. It was not the case with larger, financially secure companies.
Talaat Hafez, official spokesman for banks, said Saturday that no bank that has an agreement with a public or private sector entity can violate its stipulations, and that all banks respect the agreements concerning salaries for private sector employees.
