I read with interest the article “Remembering the forgotten genocide” (Aug. 24) by Shahriar Kia. The western world appears to be under some kind of an Iranian spell these days. The West has completely forgotten the crimes of the Iranian regime. I fail to understand as to what has Iran to offer the world. It is true that the people of Iran should not be made to pay for the crimes committed by a handful of extremist elements who have been holding them hostage to their whims and wishes since 1979 but that does not mean that the world should give it a clean chit.
Had the Iranian regime changed its ways, the changed global attitude would have been understandable but we all know that it is still creating chaos across the Arab world. In such a situation, the world cannot turn a blind eye and let this criminal regime do whatever it wants. — Pervez Ali, Dammam
