This is with reference to the article “Foul: Our loyal friend” (July 1) by Abdullah Sayel. I enjoyed reading the article and the accompanying cartoon. Both were very interesting.

It is not only the writer’s British friend who will miss foul. There are many food-loving expatriates who admire many other delicious foods available only in the Kingdom like kabsa and roast kharouf etc.

I would like to add that tamees — the Afghani bread that sometimes is of the size of a scooter’s wheel — and foul make a great combination. It is undoubtedly a gastronomical delight. Perhaps due to this very reason one always finds a bakery selling tamees almost next to a foul outlet.

I agree with the writer that foul is easily affordable and the same goes for tamees. One tamees is sufficient to satisfy the hunger of two men. The combination of foul and tamees is not just very light on the pocket but tastes great.

The long queues outside a tamees bakery is a testimony to the popularity of this oversized bread.

Meanwhile, the “Diplomat’s Corner” is proving to be an importance source through which we get to learn about the eating preferences of our diplomats.
