This is with reference to the article “Peshawar mayhem: A crime against Islam” (Dec. 22) by Abdel Aziz Aluwaisheg. I salute the writer for effectively debunking the false ideology being spread in the name of Islam. The historical and religious references in the article are enough for anybody to realize that Islam is against the actions being carried out by groups like Al-Qaeda, Tehreek-e-Taleban Pakistan (TTP) and Boko Haram.

Islam has set out rules during war times as correctly mentioned by the writer. I urge Muslim intelligentsia to step up their efforts in exposing these terrorists and should tell the world that Muslims are not terrorists but are the worst victims of terrorism.

Nobody could deny that after 9/11 attacks in the United States, there have been several 9/11s in the Muslim world. Unfortunately, the western media portrays all Muslims in a negative light, which is unfair and creates resentment among Muslims across the world.

As for the TTP, no Pakistani can forgive the group for killing innocent children, who had committed no crime. I urge writers like Aluwaisheg to delve deeper into this phenomenon so as to come up with the answers to many questions hovering in the minds of Muslims like, despite strong opposition, how come these groups are thriving? Is it part of some conspiracy to malign Islam?

The western analysts are working overtime to link these dastardly actions with Islam. I agree with the writer that we should launch an intellectual battle against this ideology and against so-called experts who miss no opportunity to churn out anti-Islam material.
