I am all for celebrations and stuff but when a captain (Chandimal) gets banned for a game in a World Cup for not finishing his overs in time (ridiculous) and Dilshan is fined for dissent then the obverse should be true.
After all, there should be some fairness in the rulings. After a bit of a laugh when the Windies beat Australia I thought their celebrations were hostile, mean and scarcely better than the James Faulkner statement about the Windies not being likeable.
As bad as dissent, it’s the flip side. Just because the commentators have created this image of it all being calypso and pina coladas it isn’t funny after a while. You don’t wriggle yourself like Bravo did when he caught Akmal during the game with Pakistan. How is that conduct any better than a batsman showing he wasn’t out.
It just went on and on. A couple of high fives is fine but the Windies make it look smug. And get over it, Gayle, your Gangnam routine is predictable and boring. Although the match on Tuesday was won too easily the celebrations were relatively subdued but you may not agree with me, there was a malice that did not make it good, clean fun.
Okay, the media was nasty about these guys and that goes for all sports celebs…it is the tax you pay on the huge sums you earn for hitting different sized balls about the place. Live with it.
Also if one more commentator rabbits about on how the Windies are the only ones who ‘really know how to celebrate’ I’ll whack him. Bad manners, raspberries and that terrible undergrad ‘nenenene ne ne’ conduct is a lot worse than Chandimal running out of time. Imagine banning a captain from a crucial game for that. Not cricket. And celebrate, don’t crow.
