This is with reference to the report “Shoura to vote on hiring Vietnamese workers” (Nov. 21). It is a bit confusing. At a time, when actions are being taken to recruit Saudis in every field and do away with expatriate work force, such proposals only send confusing signals to the workers of other nationalities. The authorities want Saudization of the labor market. Instead of firing the existing expatriate workers, steps should be taken to stop further recruitment of foreigners. The policy of getting rid of a certain number of foreigners and then hiring more from other countries is beyond comprehension.
