I read with interest the article “A love-hate relationship” (Nov. 30) by Muhammad Waqas. The current military leadership has undoubtedly become very popular among the masses for all the right reasons. Our political leaders have time and again disappointed us by their actions. Whenever they are provided with the opportunity to run the country according to the constitution, they set new records of corruption and nepotism. Once they are removed by force due to their inept behavior, they start crying foul and suddenly become the champions of democracy. In every democratic setup, we have seen these politicians acting like civilian dictators in total disregard for the national interests. It is correct that the military should not have any role to play in civilian matters but, at the same time, the corrupt politicians cannot be left to plunder the national resources. The approach adopted by Pakistan Army chief Gen. Raheel Sharif is commendable. His is an upright man with no personal agenda.
