The obsession of Indians and Pakistanis with cricket is beyond comprehension. Loving a sport is no problem but there should be some limitations to how we react to the result of a game. Seriously, one could feel the animosity in the air during a cricket match between these two countries. Why can’t we take it as just another game?

I feel that the public response to these matches indicates their psyches. It shows that a cricket match is the only venue where they (both sides) can vent their anger and their deepest frustrations. Australia and England are also seen as traditional cricket rivals and supporters of both sides get very excited during their matches but we take this excitement to new levels.

I think it is because of the trust deficit between the two nations and the official propaganda unleashed on people on both sides since 1947. How long should we continue considering each other as enemies? Cricket and for that matter any other game should be played and watched in a healthy atmosphere. These events should serve as opportunities to getting closer. Unfortunately, this is not the case and during every match we display our immaturity in one way or the other.
