The article “Behind Yemen’s crises” by Abdul Rahman Al-Rashed” (Oct. 25) was very informative. The writer’s analysis of the situation in Yemen is spot on. It is sad that former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh is trying to foment unrest in his own country for his selfish interests. The views expressed by the writer make perfect sense. We were all surprised by the audacity of Houthi attacks on major cities in Yemen. Again, Iranian role is coming to the fore. What does Iran want in the region? The Middle East is already facing numerous issues. Iran should realize that gaining influence in the region at the expense of peace would not help in the long run. Tehran may make temporary gains but it should not forget that such tactics usually backfire. Instead of focusing on its ailing economy and other domestic issues, Tehran is busy fighting proxy wars. It should mend its ways before it’s too late.
