As per a recent decision by the education authorities, children in Ontario, Canada will be imparted sex education from grade one. It is really a disturbing decision, as it would deprive children of their innocence. I believe that it would be too early for children to learn about these matters, as it would increase their curiosity and might be counterproductive.

Too much exposure to this subject has already resulted in children as young as 10 or 12 becoming parents. All those reports are part of the public domain and could be accessed at any given time.

At this tender age, schools ought to focus on a child’s reading and writing skills instead of sex education.

I cannot even bear the thought of my five-year-old brother returning from school and telling me he learned this today and that he is interested to look into this further.

I completely support the idea of children being mindful and apprehensive to the world around them. However, imparting them sex education at this level, when it does not even concern them is despicable.
