This is with reference to the report “Hofuf’s Al-Qarah village to be developed” (Feb. 1). It is heartening to note that the authorities are making all-out efforts to develop the domestic tourism sector.

The Kingdom is home to many historical sites, which need to be explored and promoted as tourist attractions. Many people say that the Kingdom should take steps to attract foreign tourists.

I believe that if these sites are properly developed and promoted within the country, it will boost economy of the Kingdom manifold. Domestic tourism has a huge potential just waiting to be properly exploited. Saudis and expatriates usually go abroad to spend their vacations.

In the presence of all facilities and proper infrastructure, they will definitely spend their holidays within the Kingdom. This, however, needs a comprehensive plan on part of the authorities. Development of historical sites will also create employment opportunities.
