This is with reference to the report “WhatsApp blues …Saudi wife dumped for ignoring message” (Nov. 19). It is really shocking to read such reports. I must say that it is the height of ignorance and intolerance. We cannot deny the fact that addiction to social media platforms is not such a healthy thing. It is not good to ignore one’s obligations toward work or family but the man’s reaction is also not commendable. The punishment is far greater than the crime. Although divorce is permissible but dumping one’s wife over such a petty issue is not very Islamic in nature. Instead of taking such drastic action, the man should have tried to sort out the issue by talking to his wife. That is what Islam wants us from its followers.
