I read with interest the article “Look who’s talking” (Nov. 17) by Abdulrahman Al-Rashed. It is useless to highlight Iran’s belligerence because the West particularly the United States appears to be firm in its resolve to embrace Iran at the expense of its old and trusted allies. It seems that the US has forgotten Iran’s past crimes and tend to ignore its domestic anti-US discourse. Like the invasion of Iraq, the détente with Iran will cost the world dearly. The friends of the US will continue to show it the correct path but apparently Washington is keen on experiencing things on its own. In the current situation, however, the US-Iran rapprochement is likely to push the Middle East into a bottomless pit of chaos.

The likely rapprochement will help boost the economy of Iran. At a time, when it is facing economic hardships, Iran is not hesitating to interfere in the Arab world. It is not difficult to imagine the regional posture of an economically empowered and internationally emboldened Iran.
