THERE IS a saying: That happiness is the feeling you get when you are so busy that you cannot also be sad. Unfortunately some of us discover that happiness came too late, or we found it after we had lost it, and so we miss the joys of everyday life. Many of us are blind and may fail to see happiness within our grasp, beside us, but we continue to see it within the grasp and faces of others.

We seem to forget that happiness is relative. It may be tied to family, money, friends, position, prestige, love, success, or careers. Are we really unable to feel happy, or is it that happiness has become linked to specific seasons, such as holidays, weddings, or vacations?

Even on these occasions, we do not know how to enjoy the feeling of happiness. Sometimes we are overwhelmed by grief and remain sulky, as if we close our eyes to the beauty that surrounds us. Sometimes, we do not have the ability to invest in opportunities to be happy with others and ourselves. If only we did, the anxieties that fill our lives and occupy our minds would lessen and we will not remain miserable. Isn’t it the most miserable thing to deprive ourselves of happiness and enjoying it?

The most important reasons that prevent us from feeling happy is when we lose our connection with Almighty God: When we sin with ease, deal inhumanely with people, as well as envy, jealousy, hatred, malice, pessimism, mistrust, arrogance, anger, and injustice.

What unites us human beings is when we have a problem, we find it to be the most difficult problem in the world, our lives revolve around it, we trap ourselves into producing other problems, and we believe this problem falls under “bad luck” or an “evil eye”.

We believe our lives are difficult, and actually turn our lives from bad to worse. We suffer an endless chain of psychological problems and low morale. We lose the ability to focus on our dreams and achieve our ambitions; feeding our own minds with negative messages that devour our positive energies on worthless things. If we are to live happy, and be comfortable with our souls, we must return to God with all our senses, and keep Him near us in all our movements, our actions and our words.

We have to create this feeling with our very own hands. We must believe, see, live and embody this sense of happiness as if it is in front of our eyes. As they say, your reality is your vision. We must not let happy occasions pass without enjoying every minute. Better still, let us express our feelings of joy on any occasion; until our faces and our souls get used to the smiles that got lost in the traffic of life.
