This is with reference to the report “Kingdom and Turkey to set up strategic cooperation council” (Dec. 30). Saudi Arabia and Turkey are the two most important countries in the Muslim world. Together these two key regional players can do wonders against various problems the Muslim world is facing these days particularly terrorism. It is heartening to note that Riyadh and Ankara are continuously cooperating on the issue of terrorism and are stepping up efforts to root out this growing menace.

Saudi Arabia and Turkey should chalk out a decisive battle plan to fight terrorism, which is also threatening both countries. The two countries are the prime targets of western media campaigns. This is an evidence of the importance of the two Islamic countries.

Ankara is faced with another problem in the form of PKK, a terrorist organization that is trying to exploit the situation in Syria. It is very important for Turkey to handle the delicate situation tactfully. One thing is for sure that the western media is not going to stop maligning both sides and will continue to level baseless allegations against Riyadh and Ankara. The two countries should not take those accusations seriously and continue with their efforts to fight terrorism in the region.
