I read with interest the article “When did goodness become surprising?” (Dec. 29) by Linda Heard. It was a good read. I agree with the writer that goodness and good people do exist in the world. It is the media, which opt to highlight negative things just to boost ratings. This article reminded me of reports about a group of Israeli citizens, which rescued a large number of Syrian refugees in the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, such reports fail to grab headlines because global powers that be want to maintain the status quo. They don’t want people to understand one another. Most of the problems arise in the absence of a proper understanding between two people. We are human beings and we should say no to the politics of hatred. What does a normal person want?

The answer is simple: A decent and secured life. Ask any common Arab, non-Arab, Indian, Pakistani, Palestinian, Israeli, American, African and Chinese etc, they all will have the same response.

We should refuse to become part of the hate politics. Global politicians only want to serve the interests of major corporations and of the weapons industry. We should all join hands against human sufferings caused by politics and politicians. We only want peace and a decent life so that we can focus on our natural abilities to enrich human civilization.
