I read with interest the article “Health professionals suffering in silence” (March 9) by Saad Al-Dosari. The views, the writer has expressed in the article, make sense. But things are not as simple as they appear. It is true that health professionals in the Kingdom and elsewhere are faced with a host of problems, particularly greedy and callous hospital managements, which are only concerned about minting money completely ignoring the rights of the patients and the doctors.

However, we should not view this issue in isolation. It would be unwise to pass the buck to others. Doctors and other health professionals are also part of the society and it is very natural for them to act in the way others act. Commercialization is an ugly aspect of the health sector. Truth be told, doctors also cannot be absolved of all the responsibility. Most of them, if not all, usually enter the field with the aim to make money. This phenomenon is no longer unique to the health sector. However, in the case of this sector the impact of this mindset is profoundly felt due to its sensitive nature.
