Interestingly, Iran has opposed any US intervention in Iraq. Tehran must be given an award for hypocrisy. It is openly flouting international laws by supporting Assad’s regime in Syria and by fomenting sectarian unrest in Iraq and other countries. Now, when the United States has been called for help, it is crying foul. In the Middle East, there are two countries responsible for the chaos and continuous tensions: Iran and Israel.

These two countries may appear to be at odds with each other but somehow I feel they are brothers in arms. They share the agenda of stoking unrest in the Middle East. Were it not for Tehran’s unflinching support to Assad, he would have been history by now. In Iraq’s case, undoubtedly the US and the UK are to be blamed but after the withdrawal of international troops from Iraq, Tehran played an ugly sectarian game. The Iraqis are now paying the price of those dirty tricks. It is up to the Iraqis now to reject Tehran’s interference in their domestic affairs and forge unity among themselves. Instead of driving a wedge between people in other countries, Iran should focus on the unrest brewing within its borders.

The suffocating theocracy should address the concerns of its youths who are getting fed up with unnecessary restrictions and curbs on their individual freedoms.
