This is with reference to the article “Iran should focus on bread and butter” (April 29) by Abdulrahman Al-Rashed. Unfortunately, the Iranian leadership is trying to push its people into the Dark Age by trying to establish Iranian hegemony in the Middle East. This kind of imperialism has become a thing of the past. It is really surprising that despite all the economic problems, the Iranian regime is spending billions on its military adventures. The same funds could be used for the uplift of the Iranian people.
The Arab world’s opposition to the US-Iran nuclear deal is not illogical. The western powers were in a better position to rein in Iranian hegemonic ambitions by linking the deal with Iran’s regional behavior. The western approach toward Iran is wrong and if the activities of Iran go unchecked, the Middle East will present a different picture in near future.
Iran should reach out to all its neighbors for the greater good of the region and its inhabitants.
