This is with reference to the article “Pakistan’s answer to terror” (Dec. 31) by Khurrum Anis. It is sad to note that many journalists are raising a hue and cry over this issue. They argue that such measures tantamount to gagging the media. I beg to disagree. Our media, particularly the television channels, need to act in a responsible manner.

The way in which they report various events and issues is very unprofessional and leaves a very negative impact on the viewers. Truth be told, sometimes watching Pakistani news programs pushes a normal person into depression.

Of course, it is the job of journalists and TV anchors to highlight social, political and economic issues but there has to be some code of conduct to follow. Our media people literally raise a hue and cry and instead of coming up with recommendations to resolve an issue, they end up shouting or laughing. This is very bad. Every media outlet wants to outdo the other and in order to do that they tend to ignore the basics of journalism.
