The world is a safer place, so said Hillary Clinton in her farewell address to State Department staff on her last day as secretary of state.

We remember hearing a similar message when George Bush had left White House. However, the recent Ankara suicide attack on the US Embassy and the killing of the US ambassador in Benghazi disprove the safety claim.

Has she forgotten that the massacre of 27 innocent people in an elementary school in Connecticut just few days before Christmas, 18 of whom were young children? How many such incidents have taken place in her country by the trigger-happy crazy men? Now looking at what is really happening in the world, it is not a safer place even for tens of thousands of ordinary people in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan and many other places, where killings have become a daily routine.

If the death toll in these places is less than half a dozen the media shy away from publishing the related news as not newsworthy!

We respect Hillary for being Bill Clinton’s wife, but as a top diplomat she has achieved nothing for her country. She seems to be in blinkers when she says that the world is now a safer place.

We would like to know if that is really true, what was her contribution for such a change, she assumes, now? On the other hand if what she said was only for the State Department staff, let it remain within the four walls of that department and not to be dished out for the consumption of the entire world. — S.H.
