I read with interest the article “Israel’s homemade security nightmare” (Oct. 24) by Neil Berry. It is not just the writer or the Israeli peace activist mentioned in the article who are surprised over the global apathy toward Palestinians’ plight, every conscientious person in the world feels the same.

This is not the first time that Israel is portraying itself as a victim of “terrorism.” It has been using the strategy of playing victim since decades. I seriously doubt that policymakers in major western capitals buy Israeli claims; they are supporting it for political, economic and religious reasons.

The ongoing unrest in the occupied holy land is of Israel’s own making. What else does it expect from a people who are stripped of all human dignity? Many pro-Israel analysts are writing extensively about this issue and vehemently opposing Palestinian youth’s tactics. The new generation of Palestinians has understood well that Israel does not want peace. Their so-called representatives in the political arena are only concerned about their own interests. They are left with no choice but to embark on this path. The global powers have always been sympathetic toward the oppressor. They have left the Palestinians to rot.
