This is with reference to the report “Mosques cannot hold lectures and seminars without permission” (Feb.1). It is very important to take such measures to effectively counter terrorism in the Kingdom. Unfortunately, many demagogues misuse the pulpit by spreading hatred in society. We should realize the importance and the power of the pulpit. I fully support the decision in question. Certain elements, not only in Saudi Arabia but also elsewhere across the globe, are always on the move to divide people for their own interests. They spread hatred among people by misquoting verses from the Qur’an and other religious material.

The best way to prevent such speakers from brainwashing the youth is to set the condition of seeking prior permission before delivering lectures in the mosque. The authorities should also scan through the speeches delivered through the pulpit.

We should support all such measures to ensure peace and harmony in Saudi Arabia.
