This is with reference to the report “Iran’s destabilizing role in focus at US talks” (Sept. 4). Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman’s visit to Washington comes at a very critical point. All eyes are on Washington where leaders of two powerful countries are meeting to discuss regional and bilateral issues.

Since his ascension to the throne, King Salman has pursued policies to ensure peace, stability and territorial integrity of the region.

Iranian role in the region is expected to top the meeting’s agenda. Without reining in Iran, stability in the Arab world will remain a distant dream. Tehran cunningly exploited the post-Arab Spring situation and acted swiftly to divide the region along sectarian lines. It is using all tactics to stoke unrest in the region. These Iranian actions are a blatant violation of all international laws. In such a situation, the West-Iran détente will only embolden Tehran to purse its agenda in the Arab world with a renewed vigor.

Saudi Arabia is the undisputed leader of the Muslim world. The Saudi royal family commands great respect among Muslims across the world. The West, particularly the United States, should address the concerns of the Saudi leadership regarding Iran and its role in the region.
