This is with reference to the report “Time ‘ripe for job market reforms’” (Oct. 17). It is heartening to note that the authorities are taking steps to streamline the Saudi labor market. I hope these reforms will help create a balance between employer-employee ties.
Efforts should be made to protect the rights of the employees. All management theories suggest that a happy or satisfied employee is always more productive. The Saudi labor market is huge in size; therefore, it is very important to introduce appropriate reforms. Too much stress on nationalization of work force might not yield the desired results. It should be a gradual process. By stressing too much on Saudization, we tend to somehow underestimate the potential of the Kingdom. We cannot compare Saudi Arabia with other GCC countries. Saudi Arabia is different in size and resources.
