The news item “Anti-corruption lessons at school” (Dec.12) caught my attention. It is no doubt an important issue and needs attention.

Living beyond one’s means — spending more than you are bringing in or earning — is a very harmful approach.

This approach leads to corrupt practices. One must bear in mind that the secret to contentment is to know how to enjoy with what one has and to be able to lose all desires for things beyond one’s reach.

I recall here what India’s former President Abdul Kalam said about corruption. “If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference: The father, the mother and the teacher.”

I strongly believe that the Riyadh Economic Forum has hit the correct note by calling to incorporate moral education in the school curriculum to combat corruption. — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
