This is with reference to the report “KSA: No common position on Assad’s fate at Vienna talks” (Oct. 24). It would be difficult for the international community to find common grounds with Saudi Arabia over the Syrian issue. Saudi position on Assad is based on its vast experience and knowledge of the region. Being the superpower of the region, Saudi Arabia knows well what policies are suitable for the Middle East. One thing is certain that at the end of the day the international community will support Assad’s ouster because this dictator can never become part of any proposed solution. We should not ignore the fact that Assad is not only part of the problem; as a matter of fact he is the problem. The terrorist organization, Daesh, came into the picture much later. Now the Syrian regime is trying to exploit the situation by claiming that it is fighting the terrorists. Sometimes, I feel that Daesh is a product of the Syrian regime. Assad created Daesh with the support of Iran to harm Arab interests in the region.
