This is with reference to the article “Boko Haram cripples polio drive” (June 25). It is very sad that these self-appointed custodians of faith are playing havoc with Muslim societies. A few years ago, Pakistan was close to become a polio-free country but thanks to the US operation against Osama Bin Laden and the lies spread by religious fanatics, Pakistan failed to achieve the target and reports of polio cases started to reemerge from various parts of the country.

The role and aim of Boko Haram is beyond comprehension. OK, we have no problem if the members of this organization abhor anything western. What is so Islamic about abducting innocent people? This is not Islam; these lunatics claim to be the followers of.

All these organizations operating in the name of Islam are doing no service to Islam and Muslims. They are carrying out horrendous acts that are not at all sanctioned by Islam. I feel surprised when somebody feels sympathetic toward these people.

We Muslims need to refer to Qur’an and Sunnah before commenting on such issues or organizations. Why hate the West? One has the right to oppose an ideology and to counter it intellectually. I also don’t appreciate many western values, as I found them in contrast with the teachings of Islam. So, I just don’t follow or adopt those values. Islam does not teach its followers to hate anybody.
