In his article “Need for a dignified departure” (March 11) by Bikram Vohra, the author has rightly pointed out that resignation should never be used as a threat or weapon. Threatening to quit while dangling offer letters from rival companies to strike a deal or going public with grievances are indeed unethical.

However, a fact that needs to be highlighted is the attitude of some companies, especially those enjoying monopoly in the market. Many such organizations take undue advantage of their employees, either in terms of cash compensation or work culture — they are sometimes poorly paid without any annual increments and bonuses. Very few bosses care about this aspect. Workers’ just demands and emotions should also be respected and a professional as well as humane approach is a must while dealing with such situations. A good employee quitting under duress should prick the conscience of the boss.
