This refers to the report, “Moral outrage, criminal act.” (Aug. 4)

UN chief Ban Ki-moon’s seems to be the only strong voice against the barbaric butchery being perpetrated unabated by Israel on an occupied community in Palestine.

By standing against Israel at a time when most of the powerful members of UN are either siding with the butcher of humanity or just keeping silent on the issue, Ban is trying giving teeth to this world organization. His strongly worded condemnation has exposed the double standard of world leaders, as their silence or meek reaction against unparalleled barbarity of the time has emboldened Israel.

This brings up another important question to the fore: How Palestine should react in the face of unabated brutal attacks that have killed more than 300 children? Will a meek and mild approach adopted by Mahmoud Abbas, presenting a sensible face of resistance, tame Israel that has simply gone berserk? What’s there that US offers in return of Abbas’ disciplined stand on the whole issue. A promise of peace talks that is more of a strategic move by Israel to swallow the whole Palestine?

Is there anyone in the world including the US that believes that Israel will give any damn to such talks?

While Abbas has his hands empty, Hamas gets violent reaction from Israel. In between, the settlements continue, blockade persists and occupation of Palestinians in its ugliest form lingers on.

The stark fact is that the US has nothing to offer on the issue except to submit to what Israel says; the other world leaders tend to ignore it and organizations like UN are unable to act.

In such a situation, if there is anything that stands on the way of the Zionist aggression, it is what Franklin Lamb says, “the persistent resistance in its countless forms.”

It pricks Israel and touches its sore spot. In this way at least it gets exposed, as we see today. While the leaders standing in support of Israel are losing their credibility as protagonists of human rights, there are others who have taken cudgels against Israel. Five Latin American countries have called back their envoys from Israel. South Africa’s ruling ANC has compared Israeli aggression to those of the Nazis. Many European countries have begun condemning Israel. China and Russia have also slammed Israel.

History has no record of any dictator surviving beyond an appointed period. If Israel continues refusing to read the writing on the wall, it will be decimated the way it was originated. US better takes note of it.
