It is true that the US invasion of Iraq has created huge problems for the country but the current situation is mainly due to the wrong policies of various political factions. The Iraqis don’t seem to be ready to move on and build their country and are busy jockeying for power. Sectarian fighting will further deteriorate the condition of the war-torn country. Instead of working as Iranian proxies, Iraqi leaders should try to focus on their own country and its interests. It is sad to note that a large number of Iraqi leaders are acting as Iranian puppets. They should realize that infighting would only render their country weak.

The former Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki’s wrong policies have driven a wedge between the Sunni and Shiite populations of the country. However, it is the responsibility of the people of Iraq to say no to the politics of hatred. It is in the interest of the future generations. No foreign power can resolve the issues facing Iraq. The solution to all problems lies with the Iraqi people. They have two options. Either they continue fighting indefinitely and let unscrupulous elements have a field day. Or join hands and forge unity among their ranks to effectively emerge from the ruins of war.
