The article “Meaning of life in Islam” (Jan. 22) by Imam Kamil Mufti is informative and an eye opener. As a matter of fact, a Muslim is supposed to lead his/her life piously so as to succeed in this world and hereafter. Allah has created us with some purpose, as is mentioned in the Holy Qur’an that humans and jins have been created to worship Allah. If one’s faith in Qiyamah or Hereafter is not strong enough, the the person cannot desist from evil. However, two concepts in Islam — reward and punishment Hereafter — protect a believer from sins and draw him/her toward piety.

Those with good deeds will be saved from hell fire and rewarded with paradise. Islam is a true religion, and it exhorts its followers not to hurt anyone and always serve the needy. Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: Whoever fulfills his brother’s needs, Allah will fulfill his needs on the day of judgment.

Also, Islam exhorts both parents and children to understand their responsibilities toward each other. Parents must bring up their children with moral values and children in turn must respect them. Many Muslims do not offer the mandatory five-time prayers, which is a grave sin.

Allah has created the universe and commanded us to pray five times daily. Life for Muslims is a challenge as he/she is supposed to worry about the grave, where the stay is very long, and the day of judgment, when everyone will be produced before the Almighty and held accountable for the deeds.
