It is so sad to read articles urging the European leaders to look at the refugee crisis from a different perspective. The article “EU should not be afraid” by OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria is one such article. The reason I feel sad is that how can we become so insensitive to others’ plight that people find it necessary to motivate us to help others by highlighting the hidden benefits.

This selfish approach runs contrary to all humanistic ideals. I commend such writers who are trying to prod the European leaders into taking swift action to address the refugee crisis.
