This is reference to the report “Rohingya see glimmer of hope in Suu Kyi’s election victory” (Nov. 18). The victory of Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi’s party appears to be engineered by the ruling junta so as to lure foreign investments in the oil and gas sector. As for the Rohingya, it would be foolish to think that a person who had refused to raise the issue openly during electioneering would do anything for these hapless people. Suu Kyi is not likely to take any action against Buddhist extremists out of fear of losing her support base.
