This is with reference to news report, “Saudis share 2-month salary bonus with cleaning staff,’ published in Arab News on Feb. 15.

It’s heartening to see the Al-Rawda municipality employees in Riyadh organizing a special party to share the bonus they received from the government with cleaning workers. The workers of the company are contracted to do maintenance work in the city. A very good gesture indeed, which will inspire a motivational spirit in expat cleaning workers!

I request all my Saudi brothers to remember their domestic maids at this moment of national joy. Normally the salaries of domestic help range between SR800-SR1,200. And if a month’s additional remuneration by means of bonus etc. is shared with these helping hands, they will feel like being integral to the family they worked for.

This will also boost the level of trust and will be an acknowledgment of their hard work particularly in upbringing of their children.
