I read with interest the article “Where there’s a will there’s a way” (Sept. 23) by Ali Ibrahim. I do agree with the writer that the international community apparently lacks the genuine will to contain the threat of Daesh. In addition to the will to fight Daesh and its likes, we also need a foolproof strategy to check the spread of terrorist organizations.

In this regard, the West is unfortunately not proving to be very supportive. In the wake of any terrorist incident, so-called analysts in the West start questioning the very basics of Islam. Most of them comment on Islam without having adequate knowledge about the religion and its history. The approach of blaming an ideology for the actions of a few individuals should be done away with. This approach only helps the extremist elements promote hatred against the West.

The international community should unanimously decide the fate of Assad and heed the advice of regional leaders who have long been calling for the ouster of the tyrant who has unleashed a wave of terror on his own people. An interim and all-inclusive setup should be installed in Syria with which the international community should work in close coordination to take on militant organizations.

Iran should also be forced to keep away from Syria’s internal matters, as its involvement in various Arab countries is only making things worse.
