This is with reference to the article “The Kurdish conundrum” (Oct. 31) by Ali Ibrahim. This was not the first time that I came across an article on Kurds in Syria, Iraq and Turkey. I am yet to understand the Kurdish issue. Kurds are a predominantly Muslim people. So, why do they want to establish a separate region or country independent of the above-mentioned countries? I have read about the PKK based in Turkey, which is undoubtedly a terrorist organization and does not represent the wider Kurdish population due to its Marxist leanings.

Being Muslims, Kurds are also part of the Ummah. It seems that somewhere along the course of history, they have been wronged due to their ethnicity, which is deplorable. While discussing Kurds, we should not forget that the great Muslim conqueror, Saladin, was a Kurd. We should try to convince our Kurdish brothers not to part ways by introducing all-inclusive policies toward them.
