After the landslide victory in Myanmar, all eyes are on Aung San Suu Kyi. The Muslim world is waiting for her to take some concrete action to stop the ongoing genocide of the Rohingya Muslims. Prior to the holding of elections, she maintained silence over the issue for political reasons. I think it is high time she spoke openly against the extremist Buddhist monks who are up in arms against the minority Muslim community.

Failing to do so, she risks losing her credentials as a peace activist. Being a Nobel laureate, it is all the more important for her to prove to the world that she deserves the peace prize.

I believe that it would be difficult for the Myanmar junta to overthrow the government or continue calling the shots because of immense global pressure. Of course, this pressure must have some economic dimensions. The Muslim world should expedite its diplomatic efforts to ensure the safety of our Muslim brothers and sisters in Myanmar.
