This is with reference to the article “Turning the tide against Assad” (May 4) by Hassan Barari. The Saudi Arabia-led military action in Yemen has really helped in boosting the morale of the Arabs in the region. Prior to Saudi Arabia’s decisive action, Iran and its cronies had been under the impression that they could do anything and get away with it. Now the situation is changing. I urge the United States and other western powers to provide the Syrian moderate forces with help against Bashar Assad. Removal of the Assad regime is very important for maintaining peace in the region. With Assad removed from the helm, Iran would not be able to continue its interference in Syria. The western powers should also reconsider their deal with Tehran over its controversial nuclear program.
