This is with reference to the report “Ban chastises Israel for killing Gazan children” (June 20). I dare ask one question: So what?

Would it restrain Israel? No. The United Nations has been issuing similar statements since the past several decades. Those condemnations did not prevent Israel from expanding its illegal settlements and usurping the rights of the Palestinians. The United Nations is quick when it needs to act against a Muslim country or a poor nation. I don’t see any difference between the UN and its failed predecessor the League of Nations.

There is no need for an organization that only serves the interests of the chosen few. The UN should have ceased to exist following the illegal invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. The US blatantly bypassed the United Nations rendering it ineffective. It lost the moral ground to lecture any other country after those invasions. In addition to that the UN appears to be a burden on the world.
