It is unfortunate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Arun Jaitley has made harsh and unpleasant statements against Justice Markandey Katju and has demanded his resignation for speaking truth.

Justice Markandey is a respectable person, well known for his outspokenness and honesty; his valuable opinion must be respected and admired as his article was balanced and realistic.

Jaitley seems nervous that a respected person of the stature of Katju has blamed and held responsible Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the most unfortunate carnage in the BJP-ruled state. Instead of producing any sound and reasonable evidence against Justice Katju’s opinion, Jaitley has resorted to mudslinging, and demanded his resignation from the present post of the chairmanship of the Press Council of India, which is not fair and awful.

Justice Katju has actually exposed the true face of Modi and warned the people not to project such a disgraced and cruel person as the prime minister of the world’s largest democracy. Justice Katju is absolutely right in his assessment of Modi.

Whereas, it is a dilemma and shock for the nation to see some sections of the BJP and like-minded people with the support of some media sections are talking of Modi as a future prime minister which is first of all very difficult to the extent of impracticability, and secondly in case if the BJP comes to power and makes Modi prime minister, then it will be a shame for the nation and a severe threat to its secular structure. — Zakaria Sultan, Riyadh
