This is with reference to the report “SR4.5bn Saudi solar revolution” (Dec. 31). It is an important decision. Due to its climatic conditions, the Kingdom can utilize solar power to the fullest. There is a great need to promote use of solar energy in Saudi Arabia. It will also help the Kingdom reduce its dependence on fossil fuel and will also help protect the environment.

It is unfortunate that despite having all resources, countries like the United States and China are not seriously considering adopting such measures to reduce carbon emissions, which has wreaked havoc on the planet’s atmosphere. The developed countries are mainly to be blamed for the climate change and deterioration of the environment. It is due to the irresponsible behavior of the developed nations that the entire mankind is facing pollution, which is resulting into various diseases.
