This is with reference to the article “The specter of water wars in South Asia” (Nov. 9) by Seema Sengupta.

Indeed, water is a precious resource and future wars will be fought over water resources. We are rapidly running out of water and we cannot blame anybody else for that. It is mainly due to our reckless use of water that we are on the brink. I am not blaming any particular nation; all human beings are responsible for this sad situation.

I urge the Indian and Bangladeshi authorities to resolve the Teesta river conflict amicably in the greater good of their respective people.

As next-door neighbors, our interests are interlinked. We cannot afford to nurse unnecessary grudges against one another. Resolving contentious issues with mutual understanding will only help boost our economies.
