This is with reference to the report “YouTube to remain blocked in Pakistan ‘indefinitely’” (Feb. 8). This restriction escapes all logic. The decision was taken in the wake of the uploading of blasphemous content on the website. Instead of blocking the video-sharing platform completely, the links to those particular videos should have been blocked. This approach is used in Saudi Arabia and it has been very successful in blocking inappropriate websites. The blanket ban on YouTube is not good, as it deprives people from various educational and entertainment material.

However, YouTube should also have acted in a responsible manner and should have had removed those videos voluntarily so as to show solidarity with millions of its users, whose religious sentiments were hurt by the blasphemous content.
