Rain impacts lower areas of Jeddah

JEDDAH: Clear skies greeted Jeddah residents yesterday morning but in some parts of the city rain caused many people to be stranded.
Several neighborhoods in the low-lying areas in the south of the city experienced run-off water, which led to traffic build-up and delays.
Weather reports issued by the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment show rising humidity levels and the potential for rain in the afternoons.
Some residents said they were late arriving at work on Saturday. Hasan Mohammed Jafri lives in the Kilo 7 area.
He said although it rained on Friday, he ran into problems on the roads on his way to work on Saturday.
Several parts of King Khalid Street were hit badly by water on Friday night. Al Sabeel, Nuzlah, Hindawiyah and Bab Shareef areas experienced some flooding.
However Balad’s busy commercial district remains unaffected and business continues as normal.
The road exiting toward Sulaimania at the old Airport was water logged on Saturday and water also jammed lower areas of Sulaimaniya and King Abdulaziz University.
One group of business owners was happy with the weather. Car wash operators at the gold market were run off their feet on Saturday, cleaning one mud-stained vehicle after another.
Municipality roadside cleaners had their work cut out for them as they dealt with the cleanup from the rain across the city.
Light rain was also reported in Makkah on Friday night and Saturday morning but there were no reports of negative impact on the city.
