Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee Secretary General Rashid Al-Haryoul said yesterday 19 athletes from five national sports associations will represent the Kingdom to the upcoming London Olympic Games.
Saudi Press Agency said the athletes are to compete in equestrian, athletics, weightlighting, judo and shooting during the Olympics which open next Friday.
Al-Haryoul said Saudi delegation officals arrived in London a few days ago to monitor arrangements for the contingent including the medical and media teams.
The Saudi delegation will be headed by president of the Youth Welfare Presidency and Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee and member of the International Olympic Committee Prince Nawaf bin Faisal.
Weighlifter Eisa Al-Qaysum will be the first to arrive in London with his coach tomorrow. Judoka Eisa Majarshi will arrive on Monday and the lone shooter on Thursday, while the 10 qualified athletes will arrive on Wednesday and Thursday. The Saudi equestrian team is expected in London on July 31.
Prince Nawaf will attend meetings of the IOC that will discuss the issues on the agenda and continue four days before the opening of the competitions.
The prince has also invited the heads of the delegations of the Islamic and Arab countries and major sports figures present in London to an Iftar party organized by the delegation and Saudi Embassy in London at the British Museum as part of the Saudi Expo of Horses from the Arabian Peninsula at Royal Ascot on Aug.1.
